Note | When Joseph was fourteen years old he and his father had a little trouble and Joseph left home. He never went back home to live, but kept in touch with the family whenever he could. It would have been 1876 when he left home. His mother had three more children after that. His mother died Dec. 12, 1882 and left her baby ten months old, her tenth child. The night his mother died he was working night-herding mules along the railroad. At the hour of her death he could hear music. He said the loveliest music he ever heard. Wherever he went, whatever he was doing, he could still hear music. The other men in the camp said they couldn't hear the music. Joseph went to see his family once when he was nineteen years old and again when he was twenty-one. His mother had died and his father had married again, a widow with four children. He found out the date of his mother's death and knew the cause of hearing the music. His father, Magness Florunteen, died at Mt. Pleasant April 4, 19.8 at the age of 73. Joseph Alfred worked at different things. He started to the Silver Reaf, a mining town, in Dixie on a freight wagon, but stopped in Cedar City and went to work for a farmer named Moot Mackoprang. This was about 1885. He met and married Charolotte Gower, daughter of Thomas Gower and Martha Ann Tidswell on November 22, 1888 in Cedar City. Joseph died June 6, 1914 in Cedar City, Utah where he lived all of his married life. His wife died January 24, 1954. They were the parents of five boys and two girls. Hilma Johanna, Harvey Gower, Joseph Angus, Thomas Gower, Magness, Martha LaVern and Horace Adron. |
